A Survey of the Library
The Library of Civil Aviation Flight University of China had gone
through a course from an army unit to a civil one. In 1966, the Books
and Reference Materials Room in the Theoretical Training Department
of No.14 Aviation School of the People`s Liberation Army of China
was set up.And became the  books
and Reference Materials Room in the Theoretical Teaching Department
of Civil Aviation training School of China in 1982,and was enlarged
into a Library of the department in 1984. It was upgraded the library
of CAFUC (Civil Aviation Flight University) in October, 1986.
Under the guidance of CAAC and the departments in Charge of education
at all levels the library has become CAFUC`s Literature and information
center, and has built a guarantee system of literature and information
including virtual resources. The Library has a collection of 350,000
volumes. And the collection has its own characteristics. In accordance
with the laws and regulations of the Education Department of PRC,
the Library conscientiously does its duty of education and information,
serves the University`s teaching training and research, Promotes the
University`s development, and has gained remarkable results. The Library
won successively the honourable titles of the “8th of March” Red Flag
Unit of the Nation`s civil aviation system, the excellent unit of
the University, and its circulation department won the excellent department
of the libraries in institutions of higher learning in Sichuan.
The Library consists of the Administrative Office, the Acquisition
and Cataloging Department, the Reading and circulating Department
and the Information Technology Department. In the Reading and circulating
Department, there is an aviation Literature reading room, a reference
books reading room , a periodicals reading room , a synthetical reading
room , a newspapers reading room and two circulation desks. In the
Information and Technology Department, there is a 60-seat electronic
reading room . The Library has a stall of 36 members in specialities
of management and library and information , 34 members have diplomas,
4 of them have higher academic and technical titles and 9 have middle
ranks.
The Library`s automatic system built in August, 2003, and passed through
the evaluation by Sichuan Education Department. This system has reached
the level of “211” colleges and universities in the province. Now,
the Library’s professional works have been managed automatically.
This has greatly raised the utilization ratio of the collection and
work efficiency.
Facing the needs of the University’s development and social and economical
system, to build a knowledge system for the growth of special talents
is the important duty of the Library in the new century. Grasping
at the opportunity of the University’s reform and development and
the construction of 16000
m2 new library building, the Library will renew its software and hardware
facilities in an all round way in order to upgrading the current automatic
system and more efficiently giving play to the functions of the Library
as the University’s literature and information center. The Library
will continuously stress its characteristic in aviation literature,
strengthen cooperations with airlines, prepares to set up the Southwest
Civil Aviation Literature and Information System. All these will promote
the quality-oriented education of students and the synthetical ability
of professional persons. At the same time, in meeting with the needs
of the development of West China and the establishment of new specialities
in the University, the library will greatly increase its collection.
And in order to serving local economy and enlarge its service areas
the Library will cooperate with local libraries.
Characteristics of the collection: Taking aviation literature as the
main part in which literature concerning flight technology, air traffic
management and air transportation are being made the focal points,
ensuring the needs for the teaching of majors such as English, computer,
industrial and business management, cabin attendants, etc. The Library
has ordered 940 periodicals in Chinese, 76 in foreign languages, in
which 60 are original aviation periodicals. Now, a reference room
for aircraft types used in Chinese Civil Aviation is to be established.
And the Library has bought Supper Star electronic books, VIP scientific
and technological periodical database, CNKI Excellent doctor and master
paper data base and news paper and periodical data base of Renmin
University o f China. And the library has built by itself the Civil
Aviation and Flight Safety Data Base, the list of Articles Aviation
Periodicals Data Base, CAFUC Excellent Bacheller Paper Data Base.
Special Services: The Library has edited 60 and more kinds of Sellected
Works of Flight Safety, Compitation of Mulfunctions of Civil Aircraft
Types, concerning aviation theory, safe flight skills and so on at
home and abroad. The Library also edits the Catalogue of New Accessions
and Sellected Works of Higher Education from 2002 ( started at 2002
).These materials are available ( provided ) for special personnel
in education training, research and managing circles and students.
Sellected Works of Flight Safety is the most favorite reference for
the students writing graduation papers. |
